This year, I wanted to do the normal traditions, but I also wanted to bump it up and add some true Scandinavian touches. ![]() I use firewood for decor and pull out all of our woven baskets for blanket storage. We cut down our own Christmas tree, buy fresh garland and use greeneries from our yard, and wrap presents with brown and white craft paper. In years past we have always kept our Christmas decorating pretty simple. Come see what we did in our Scandinavian Farmhouse Christmas Home tour. So to bring some of that in this year for Christmas was the perfect combo. Being from Sweden, Germany, and Italy, John and I have a lot of European culture in our families and home. The key is to opt for a consistent and complementary color scheme for a cohesive and considered look. This year we went with a Scandinavian Christmas theme full of fresh greeneries, cloved oranges, rustic wood, and an antique farmhouse feel. For larger displays I mix lots of seasonal greenery or herbs into my arrangements and favorite flowers, which include ranunculus, hyacinths, white roses, flowering eucalyptus, snowberries and fresh rosemary.' What colors are good for a farmhouse Christmas decor scheme?Ī restrained color palette, featuring a plethora of off-whites, antique golds and faded pinks should make up the basis of your farmhouse Christmas decor ideas. 'I always stick to white and when it comes to flowers for the table I like them to be simple, not too arranged – I love them to feel loose and natural. And don’t forget that lovely glass vases can often double up as storm lanterns, too, when you pop a candle inside. Candles, of course, never fail to please mixed in displays with pretty small bud vases, which bounce the light beautifully. ![]() We have some amazing faux wreaths, swags and garlands and if you mix these up with fairy lights and lots of candles it’s a truly seasonal statement. 'I love to add in real flowers and greenery just a couple of days before the main event,' says Chrissie Rucker, founder, The White Company.
